Studies show that early adolescence is a pivotal time in every person’s life.  It is a crucial time for students to develop their individual identity and find experiences at which they can succeed.

Wilson’s new Middle School program will include the following critical elements for success:

Montessori Philosophy
A commitment to Maria Montessori’s ideals for the needs of the early adolescent: meaningful work, living and working in a community, and life lessons outside of the classroom.

Curriculum (Read more >)
A rigorous, integrated, thematic, multi-disciplinary approach to learning that includes music, art, foreign language, physical education and health.  The thematic curriculum meets the state and district standards as well as addresses the social and emotional needs of the adolescent.

Learner Expectations (Read more >)
Parents and students are asked to sign a document describing what the students can expect from the program.

Community
We make a deliberate effort to understand, appreciate, and build community at home, at school, in our city, and beyond. In the classroom, students are organized into cooperative work groups.  All students are expected complete 36 hours of Community Service work each year.

Field Study
A commitment to a broader education means we must learn and study outside of the school walls.  Field study is tightly woven in to the curriculum.  It offers unique opportunities for personal growth and strengthening community.

The role of education is to interest children profoundly in an external activity to which they can give their full potential”
