We ask that parents and students discuss and agree to the following expectations of a middle school student in a Montessori environment.
Woodrow Wilson Montessori Middle School Learner Expectations
The following are expectations of a middle school student in a Montessori environment. Please read and discuss these with your child to assess your child’s projected ability to be productive, happy, and successful in this unique learning situation.
Learning expectations:
- Demonstrate ability to initiate, persist, and complete work independently.
- Contribute to group projects and take responsibility for shared roles in learning.
- Take a positive, active part in all classes.
- Participate enthusiastically in all Field Experiences.
- Lead scheduled conferences with parents and teachers.
Community expectations:
- Sacrifice for the good of the group.
- Contribute to democratic processes.
- Assume responsibility for jobs shared
among the group such as participation in
fundraising activities to help cover the costs of Field Experiences. - Learn
how to work well with others by helping each
other and showing
tolerance and kindness to fellow students.
Work expectations:
- Use organizational tools including a planner, checklists, folders, and binders
- budget class time wisely
- Spend up to two hours per night in homework
- Turn in assignments on time
Respectful expectations:
- Use
appropriate words, gestures, body language,
and tone of voice when
speaking to adults and other students. - Care for and clean up community, lunch room, building, and personal property.
- Treat others and their belongings respectfully at all times.
Community Service Expectations:
- Participate in 18 hours of service per semester.
- Make community service a part of your life, not just a requirement.
